ELEGANT STEAM
London & North Eastern Railway
Silver Jubilee - Coaches A & B. The train that started the British streamline age. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and introduced in 1935, the train was made up of 8 coaches. With smoothed coaches, luxurious interiors and hauled by a "silver" A4 Class locomotive (actually three shades of grey) it must have been an astounding sight. Many books and articles have been written about this train that are worth reading. The greatest pity is that there are no colour movies made at the time, which is surprising considering the publicity hungry attitude of the LNER.
