Royal Scot Class - No 6118 Royal Welch Fusilier. A Fowler design introduced in 1927 to a total of 71 locomotives they were generally named after regiments of the British Army although early locomotives were given names originally carried by 19th century engines. (these were gradually replaced by regimental names). Fast reliable locomotives the class was rostered on the fastest and most prestigious LMS expresses. The illustration shows a locomotive as built before the appearance was somewhat marred by the fitting of large smoke deflectors - necessary though they may have been !!
