ELEGANT STEAM
No 2053 Greater Britain. A member of the Greater Britain Class of which 10 were built between 1891-1894. They were painted in the normal black LNWR livery but Nos 2053 and 2054 (Queen Empress) were adorned in a special livery to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. The above livery isn't too bad if rather gaudy but No 2054 Queen Empress was white and lilac !! Whatever were they thinking of ? Thank goodness they reverted to the normal black livery after a few months. Actually they were rather good locomotives.
