Great Northern Railway Class C1 (4-4-2) Atlantic No 253. Designed by Ivatt and entered service in 1903. in the first two decades of the 20th century these locomotives were the principal haulers of Great Northern expresses and could be seen at the head of such prestigious trains as the Flying Scotsman, the Queen of Scots and the Harrogate Pullman. In fact they were only really displaced when Gresley's Class A1 Pacifics entered service in the 1920's. They lasted until 1950 and one example has been preserved.
