ELEGANT STEAM
London Midland & Scottish Railway
Coronation Scot - Vestibule Third - No 9003. There were three coaches of this type in the 9 coach set. Unlike the LNER the LMS only had one streamlined train, the Coronation Scot. Introduced in 1937 this train ran from London to Glasgow. The coaching stock was not newly designed for the train but, instead, was merely existing coaches refurbished for the purpose and, of course, repainted. I understand that they were refurbished to a high standard, however, and offered a luxurious ride. Not to be confused with the 1939 set which were brand new and mainly built for the purpose of impressing Americans when it was sent to the USA the same year. It was the intention to run the new train in the UK but the war got in the way. It was returned after the war but never ran as a set.
