Coronation Scot (1939) - Corridor Brake First No 56000. This was the first coach on the Coronation Scot train that was sent to the USA in 1939. Vastly different to anything that the LMS had produced before including the blue Coronation Scot train that was running in the UK at that time. Because war broke out the train stayed in the USA for the duration and, upon its return, economic conditions dictated that it was never to run as a complete train. The coaches were, therefore, repainted in standard LMS red and run as pairs on ordinary expresses.

This illustration involved a bit of guesswork and a measure of intuition. Only a line diagram was available, a written description of the livery and photographs. I hope that it's reasonably correct. The gold stripes were outlined with vermilion and black lines which don't show on this view. Go to the detail for a clearer view.
