ELEGANT STEAM

Class A4 - No 4495 Golden Fleece. Named for hauling West Riding Ltd - London - Leeds & Bradford which was aimed at the wool market businessmen.
This is another illustration that I'm not altogether happy with, however, it will hold its place until another comes out of the Workshops.
The need ,originating from the LNER Publicity Dept and Board of Directors, to portray the LNER at the cutting edge of speed, comfort and design resulted in Sir Nigel Gresley designing the famous A4 Class of locomotives. Designed for high speed with lightly loaded luxury trains, nevertheless they were capable of handling heavy loads. The world speed record for steam traction is still held by one of the class. I saw this locomotive many times hauling the southbound Flying Scotsman.
