Class A2 No E527 Sun Chariot. To all intents and purposes this class of locomotives was pure LNER. Designed by AH Peppercorn they were introduced from Dec 1947 immediately before nationalisation on 1 Jan 1948 and were duly painted in full apple green LNER livery. No E527 Sun Chariot, however, was completed in Jan 1948 and so the letter 'E' was added before the original number (not above the number as were others) and a temporary 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' on the tender. One member of the class is preserved in the form of No 532 Blue Peter.
