ELEGANT STEAM
The LNWR seems to have had only two styles of boiler band lining for the black locomotives. Possibly economic conditions resulted in the change to the simpler style in 1876. The grey outer line appears to have been a pale blue shade rather than grey; the finishing varnish changing the final colour. (the source for the latter point is - LNWR Liveries - HMRS). The cream lining appears to have varied from a light cream to a distinct yellowish colour. The red was scarlet.

The black areas above represent the overall black colour of the locomotive.
